Job Description

Wright Flood is looking to hire an Underwriter/Broker for its Private Flood team!

The Private Flood Underwriter/Broker position requires a strong problem solving, multi-tasking, and organizational skill set with an emphasis on customer service. As a Private Flood Underwriter/Broker, the candidate must possess the ability to maintain a keen understanding of current underwriting appetites within the private market, adapt to ever changing underwriting market conditions, and cultivate key relationships to maintain a steady stream of business while remaining within the quality standards set by the company and its partners.

The Private Flood Underwriter/Broker must be able to analyze and assess risks, provide agent/insured with tailor made solutions by acting as a broker in the surplus market, and calculate the required premium according to the underwriting rules and guidelines of each of the company’s surplus carrier partners and the National Flood Insurance Program. The Private Flood Underwriter/Broker must also have a strong knowledge of the company’s admitted Excess Flood product and be able to identify risks that fit the criteria of the excess flood product by utilizing risk-specific underwriting.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/JOB DUTIES:

  • Maintains a working level knowledge of rules, regulations and procedures of the National Flood Insurance Program and the company’s surplus carrier partners to effectively broker policies by determining the most competitive pricing based on the requested types and amounts of coverage.
  • Answers questions or resolves problems of agents, insured’s, Regional Sales Managers and company management.
  • Apply rules and rates to all rating situations involving new business, renewals, endorsements, and cancellations of surplus lines primary and excess products.
  • Prepare quotes for agents within company established time frames.
  • Explain surplus lines primary and excess underwriting process, and/or procedures via internal and external communication including but not limited to phones, email and/or chat.
  • Determine if a property qualifies for surplus lines primary and excess flood insurance products.
  • Required to establish and maintain strong working relationships with carrier partners, agents and our London brokers.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have a working knowledge of rules, regulations and procedures of the National Flood Insurance Program and the company’s admitted excess product.
  • Must be able to travel up to 25% of the time in-state, out-of-state, and out-of-country.
  • 220 License required; 120 License preferred.
  • Must be proficient in all Flood Underwriter skillsets.
  • Must possess a working knowledge and/or the ability to independently research and determine the rules and regulations of each state’s surplus lines association.
  • The team member must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, initiative and ability to resolve difficult business or interpersonal issues when needed. Also, should have a strong ability to deal effectively with all levels of the organization. Demonstrate a comfort level in a fast-paced environment with constantly changing priorities. Must have exceptional time management and organizational skills with emphasis on product and technical knowledge required. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills with the commitment to work successfully in a team environment and foster teamwork with teammates, leaders and executives
  • The Private Flood Underwriter/Broker is required to show ingenuity and initiative in the development and expansion of any all admitted and non-admitted products without the requirement of close supervision by showing discretion and independent sound judgement.
  • Unless otherwise indicated, this is a Hybrid position so you may be required to work in the office as needed or scheduled.
  • Manual dexterity, arm and upper body range of motion sufficient for use of a keyboard, mouse and telephone 7-8 hours per day.
  • Speech and hearing sufficient for in-person and telephone communication 7-8 hours per day.
  • Vision sufficient for use of a computer monitor.
  • Ability to sit at a desk 7-8 hours per day.
  • Must be able to travel up to 25% of the time by car or plane when business needs require it.
